What Is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?
PRP is created from a small sample of your own blood. Using the Zimmer Biomet GPS® III Platelet Separation System, platelets are concentrated and prepared for injection.
According to manufacturer data, the GPS® III system is designed to capture over 90% of available platelets.
Platelets release growth factors that:
• Support collagen repair
• Stimulate tissue healing
• Improve blood supply
• Help regulate inflammation
PRP is commonly used for:
• Mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis
• Hip, shoulder, or ankle osteoarthritis
• Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
• Achilles and patellar tendinopathy
• Chronic ligament sprains
• Chronic soft tissue injuries
What Is nSTRIDE® APS?
nSTRIDE® APS (Autologous Protein Solution) is an advanced next-generation biologic treatment derived from your own blood. It is designed specifically for patients with knee osteoarthritis.
Unlike standard PRP, nSTRIDE® APS is designed to concentrate not only platelets but also natural anti-inflammatory proteins, including IL-1 receptor antagonists and soluble TNF receptors and anabolic growth factors that, along with the plasma proteins, help target inflammatory signals that contribute to cartilage breakdown in osteoarthritis and further:
• Reduce inflammation inside the knee joint
• Improve pain levels
• Enhance joint function

APS contains a high concentration of your own white blood cells, platelets, and plasma proteins, which release anti-inflammatory signals and growth factors that help reduce inflammation and support cartilage repair.
nSTRIDE® APS is most commonly used for:
• Mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis
• Selected hip, ankle, shoulder, and small-joint arthritis
It is specifically developed for osteoarthritis in synovial joints, with the strongest clinical evidence in the knee.
PRP vs nSTRIDE® APS – What’s the Difference?

Both are autologous (from your own blood) and carry a very low risk of allergic reaction.
The appropriate option depends on:
• Severity of arthritis
• Type of tissue involved
• Previous treatment response
• Patient goals
Dr. Barsoom determines the most appropriate biologic therapy after assessment.
What to Expect
• Blood draw performed in clinic
• Blood processed using specialized system
• Injection into the affected joint or soft tissue
• Temporary swelling or stiffness for 24–72 hours is common
• Gradual improvement over weeks to months
Results vary depending on age, arthritis severity, and overall health.
Is PRP or nSTRIDE Covered by OHIP?
These treatments are not covered by OHIP.
Private insurance coverage varies and depends on individual policies.
Who May Be a Candidate?
You may benefit if:
• You have mild to moderate osteoarthritis
• You have chronic tendon or ligament injuries
• Standard medications or physiotherapy have not provided sufficient relief
• You wish to delay joint replacement surgery
